Virgin Radio launched with a world-first live broadcast from a moving train – a Virgin Train – as it travelled across the country from Manchester to London.
At 11am on the 30th March 2016, Virgin Radio presenters Edith Bowman and Matt Richardson broadcast to the nation from the newly-named train, the ‘Virgin Radio Star’. The train departed Manchester Piccadilly and journeyed through the UK, Via Crewe, Birmingham and Rugby, to its final London destination.
Throughout the journey, Travis, The Feeling, Mystery Jets, Gavin James, Emmy the Great and Walking On Cars entertained guests with on board acoustic performances of some of their greatest hits, past and present. The train has also been refitted and dressed to breathe life into a live performance space on-board, with wallpaper, rugs and music memorabilia among changes that have been made to the carriage.
‘The guys did an absolutely first class job for us on the train. As you know this was a far from straightforward job. They were a real pleasure to work with throughout and a real credit to themselves and to Capital Sound. Do please pass on our heartfelt thanks. I should also thank you for the time and effort that went in to planning the project which went well above and beyond the call of duty and was very much appreciated.’ Phil Critchlow, TBI Director
As Phil has said this was a far from usual project, from working out the best way for the signal path between carriages, to the strict H&S regulations that had to be observed; despite the various complications it was a very interesting project to take on.
